MEET YOUR TRAINER
I’m Andy Patterson.
Before starting in insurance, I had a home remodeling business, doing mostly roofing, drywall, framing, siding and windows. I did this for a few years then went to work for State Farm Insurance where I worked for 25 years.
I started in the mail room, but quickly worked my way into claims - with zero experience.
I started hanging around local body shops to learn the car repair process and was quickly promoted from mail room guy to auto property adjuster.
Since then, I’ve handled everything from bodily injury, to homeowner fire claims, to worker’s comp. I’ve been deployed all across the U.S. for both desk and field.
I entered each segment as a “newbie,” but my biggest challenge came when I went to work catastrophe claims.
Like thousands of new adjusters, I was thrown into this situation unprepared. Out of necessity, I trained myself. I would launch ice balls at shingles to learn about hail damage. I’d practice scoping and writing on the homes of friends and family.
Fast forward to my last 3 years of my career spent mostly doing service recovery and agency liaison work (A.K.A fixing problems.)
99% of the time those problems were created by new or inexperienced independent adjusters.
It seemed like the IA firms were just sending “bodies” to the storm without getting them ready.
With a little bit of coaching and training, these adjusters could have survived and even thrived on their first deployment.
But the reality was their deployments (and likely careers) ended before it ever really got started. I knew I wanted to help and I knew I could help, but not from where I was currently sitting…
The final straw was when I met two women sleeping in their Vehicles at a truck stop while working hurricane IDA.
This was their first week of their very first deployment. Being new adjusters, they were trying to save money on hotel expenses. Both were mothers of small children. I asked one of them why they had left the comfort of home and her family to do this, she said…
“Andy, this is life changing money…where else can we go and make six figures without having to go to college or technical school?”
At that moment I knew I had to leave my job and do what I could to help the thousands of people that want to better their lives by being adjusters.
They wanted to make this a career to change the financial futures of their families.
Myself, I never went to college but I was able to set myself up financially by being an adjuster.
At this point, I could no longer sit on the sidelines and watch new people fail, especially when I could do something about it!
THIS IS WHY I STARTED PATTERSON ADJUSTER TRAINING.
